Supporting Female Futures with New York Fashion Tech Lab (Stylus)
For women-led startups looking to push their businesses to the next level, the New York Fashion Tech Lab has been designed to offer a helping hand. The nonprofit organization runs a yearly program to help shape the future of growing startups working within the intersection of fashion, retail and technology by collaborating with top fashion retailers, brands and industry experts, as well as the Lab’s portfolio of companies.
The intensive 12-week program runs from March to June each year, bringing between six and ten women-led companies on board. The NYFTL gives startups a push by putting them in front of the right people and supplying them with the all-important connections needed to grow their businesses. The community-driven platform also sees participants immersed in workshops and panel discussions on issues relevant to fashion tech companies, such as data optimization, technology architecture and scalability, privacy and security, and broader industry trends. As the 12 weeks come to a close, each company’s founder is invited to make a presentation in front of decision makers and investors from across the fashion and retail sectors.
The Lab’s previous partners include Bloomingdales, LVMH, Microsoft, Macy’s, MatchesFashion.com, the Estee Lauder Companies, Kate Spade & Company and the Ralph Lauren Corporation, to name a few. Another draw for brands hoping to apply for NYFTL lies in the fact that the Lab is part of Springboard Enterprise , which boasts a large network of experts working within the tech industry. At the time of writing, the ever-expanding network has over 670 companies – which have collectively raised over $7.5 billion – in its portfolio. Springboard works to showcase and support women-led companies that are seeking investment in order to grow.
NYFTL co-founder, and chairman of Springboard Enterprises, Kay Koplovitz, says: “We offer a tremendous value to the fashion industry through the unique, collaborative environment we create between the innovators and iconic retail and fashion brands fostering iteration, validation, and acceleration of technologies to advance the industry.”
